Eric Says:
Mountaineering/Alpinism is without a doubt the most rewarding experience of all the climbing disciplines. Only in alpinism can one use the full range of climbing technique- rock, ice and mixed climbing all in one venue. These practiced in a spectacular setting which provides ample opportunity for great challenge and reward.
At first my pursuit was for technical ability and the thrill of climbing. Then my focus changed to adventure and exploration. Now I enjoy all that as well as use my experience and knowledge towards new and very fulfilling aims. This is in mountain guiding, where I am able to use the full repertoire of my expertise garnered from a life long passion that has led me to become a master in the art.
To guide with distinction one must be certified by the IFMGA. A good guide should be able to draw from a great depth of experience. It helps to be of a wise and patient disposition, to have a sense of humour and of course sustained motivation and drive. Always striving to reach your objective with your guest, in complete control, confidence and safety on any ground and anywhere in the world.
The essence of the alpinist is to have challenged ones self against the great glacial ranges. It is to have carried on through inclement weather and difficult ground to the summit. It is to climb hard and have explored and established new routes in all the climbing disciplines.
To become a true master of the mountains is to combine both of the above and discover humility and generosity as well. Such has been my path and I can say that my commitment has been total and my all-encompassing, multi-faceted dedication is what I take the greatest pride in. Every day that I guide, I cherish. My greatest reward comes from not only my keen awareness of how fortunate I am to do what I love and to share this with others, but also when I see a discerning guest truly appreciates the level of service that I provide.
Happy trails, Eric.
Eric’s Recommended Alpine/Mountain Climbing Activities:
I feel it is important to have a good mix, it promotes self development, keeps things balanced, fun and interesting. I recommend a blend of the following activities to everyone- they can be combined in one trip over several days or over the course of separate trips.
* Objectives that are classics - because they are beautiful, fun and enjoyable
* Objectives that are challenging - because they help us surpass ourselves and for the reward they offer
* Skills and technique building - because it helps one develop and improve, thus obtaining a richer experience and become a more complete mountaineer
* Discovering new areas and establishing new routes - because the spirit of adventure is exciting and nothing is more fulfilling than being the first to climb a new route
I will custom tailor any of the above recommendations to your specific requirements, sparing no effort in planning your trip to the finest details in order to assure your absolute satisfaction. I trust you will enjoy and appreciate my professionalism, enthusiasm and passion for what I do.
Whether you are a complete neophyte who has never climbed a mountain, a fellow enthusiast looking for a good day out, an intermediate wanting to perfect their skill or a seasoned veteran looking to bag a significant undertaking, I will be pleased to be your guide.
