Trip Description top of page

Join ACMG Guides Paddy Jerome and Dave Birnie for an unforgettable week of ski touring at a luxurious Back Country Lodge in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. This 2000 sq. ft. Lodge boasts bright dining and living areas, large modern kitchen with propane oven and stove. A heated drying room, 2 private wash-up rooms with running hot water, six guest rooms that can accommodate up to 14 people with a selection of single double and bunk beds. A combined solar and micro-hydro charging system supplies the lodge with environmentally friendly indoor light. Mistaya as well has an amazing wood fired sauna bath-house to clean up each day and enjoy being in the backcountry in style! This trip is not one to miss...

Deep snow in the remote high country and the warm coziness of Mistaya Lodge combine to make a Mecca for backcountry skiers, from mid-December until early May.  Located on the west slopes of the Canadian Rockies, the frequent up slope snowfalls and the dry powder of the Rockies provide us with excellent telemark and alpine ski touring.  Our close proximity to extensive glaciated terrain as well as glades and open tree skiing, provides plenty of variety for novice to expert backcountry skiers using either telemark or randonee equipment.  An unforgettably scenic 18 minute flight by helicopter from Golden, British Columbia will introduce you to this magically beautiful basin in the Rockies.

Food Logistics top of this page

Food is included in the price and we will have chef on hand for the entire week.  Quite often it is Theresa Calow or Kelly Major.

Accommodation Logistics top of this page

Mistaya Lodge in Wildcat Creek which lies just to the west of the Wapta Icefield.

Transportation Logistics top of this page

Generally speaking the logistics are a primary flight from Golden, B.C. and then a few shorter flights to get the rest of the trips participants in to the lodge.  Alternatively, depending on numbers we fly in the big ship (Bell 212) as a single one flight group.  The meeting place is generally the flight hanger in the town of Golden.   Same program in reverse for the flight(s) out.
